As one institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a non-profit R&D organisation, the IITB performs contract research for public and commercial customers. Our group is mainly interested in industrial diagnosis problems to be solved by means of signal analysis and classification. Of special interest is currently combustion engine diagnosis: XSERUM is a fully Linux-based combustion engine diagnosis system (see http://www.iitb.fhg.de/~kir/xserum/index.html).



Institut für Informations- und Datenverarbeitung uses Linux for the following functions:

  • Print spooler using lpd (Unix, NFS clients)

  • Document preparation with ApplixWare.
  • Document preparation with TeX, LaTeX and derivatives.
• Internet client software - WWW
  • NetScape Navigator.
  • Lynx.
• Internet client software - mail
  • Pine.
  • Netscape's mail client.
  • Other mail clients.
• Electronic mail server:
  • SMTP server (sendmail, others).
  • SMTP mail router.
• Network services provided to local users:
  • ``Regular'' (user-ID and password required) ftp server.
  • Accepts secure-shell (ssh) connections.
• Network services provided to remote users over dial-up or the Internet:
  • Accepts secure-shell (ssh) connections.
• Software development tools:
  • C and/or C++
  • Java
  • Perl
  • Tcl/Tk
  • Bourne, Korn, C or another shell; using sed, awk, grep and similar tools.
  • Fortran
