Definition of Security Exploit

A Security Exploit is a bug or misconfiguration on a Host System which can be used by an Intruder to gain unauthorized access to that Host System or to a network to which it is connected. The Intruder might also take advantage of this problem to cause Denial of Service.

There are large numbers of well-known Security Exploit's, which apply to different operating systems, networks and application programs.

A Security Scanner might be used to find Security Exploit's, so that they may be removed and Security be improved.
