Definition of Authentication Factor
An Authentication Factor is a piece of information used to authenticate or verify a person's identity for security purposes.
The three main types are:
- Something you know (ie. a password or PIN)
- Something you have (ie. a credit card, hardware token)
- Something you are (ie. fingerprint, retinal pattern, etc.)
